Mentors and Coaches

topMentors

Training, Education and Mentoring (TEAM) has established a comprehensive approach to mentored clinical and translational science (CTS) research training that includes a mentor-scholar matching program, a program to train junior faculty as mentors, and an assessment and evaluation program to determine mentor effectiveness

CTS scholars work with a primary faculty mentor with a successful, funded research program and a record of effective mentoring. The mentor’s role is to support the scholar in (1) formulating research plans, (2) disseminating scientific ideas, (3) managing both personnel and scholar time and effort, and (4) developing networking skills critical to collaborative team science.

A CTS scholar/mentor contract sets forth the parameters of the mentoring relationship. This contract establishes goals and objectives for the research project and evaluative criteria on how to measure achievement. Designed both as a training plan and a training exercise, this contract makes explicit expectations and implementation guidelines, and raises scholar-mentor awareness of the mentoring process.

Please use the Contact Information if you are seeking a mentor or if you would like to serve as a mentor.

Coaches

The Coaches are 15 senior faculty members from colleges with health-related graduate and professional programs with extensive experience in the training of clinical and translational scientists who serve as senior mentors for the CCTS Education/Career Development key function known as TEAM (Training, Education and Mentoring). Working with the associate deans for research of each college, TEAM Coaches play prominent roles to (1) marshal CCTS resources for the external and internal recruitment of talented professional students and junior faculty with academic aspirations in CTS; (2) serve as UK‘s “GPS” system in charting successful academic career development roadmaps for CTS scholars, (3) coordinate mentor services, including mentor-trainee matching, mentor recruitment, development and oversight,5 and (4) provide overall oversight and guidance to the CCTS TEAM key function.
