Practice-Based Research Networks (PBRNs) represent groups of primary care clinicians and practices working together to answer community-based health care questions and translate research findings into practice. The Kentucky Ambulatory Network, the University of Kentucky’s first PBRN, was founded in 2000 and serves as a model for PBRN development. The KAN has been extensively involved in development of new PBRNs based at UK with membership across the state. Three additional PBRNs are based at UK – in Dentistry, Public Health, and Rehabilitation Medicine. Each UK-based PBRN has a unique mission and infrastructure. Taken together, they constitute a "meta-network" of university faculty, researchers, healthcare providers, government agencies, and community members mobilized to address chronic health issues and improve the health and well-being of the citizens of Kentucky.
