Nancy E. Schoenberg, Ph.D., oversees the Community and Collaboration Core of the UK CCTS, providing leadership and guidance for community-academic partnership programs and health equity research and training initiatives. She provides extensive research design and protocol consultation to investigators and community groups; leads professional development workshops and programming focused on mentorship; supports manuscript and presentation development; and contributes to grant writing and reviewing through five translational science training initiatives across the career spectrum, from undergraduate (SPARK) to community professional (CLIK) to faculty (Research Scholars Program) research development. An anthropologist, applied behavioral scientist, and interventionist, she deploys diverse methodological approaches including community-engaged participatory research, implementation science, and cultural adaptation of evidence-based programming, particularly among rural and other underserved populations. She serves as the Marion Pearsall Professor of Behavioral Science in the UK College of Medicine and founding director of the UK Center for Health Equity Transformation, where she conducts complex, culturally appropriate interventions that, in collaboration with diverse community members, seek to establish the evidence base to prevent and control diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic and multiple morbid conditions. Committed to collaborating with and training others to undertake impactful health research, Dr. Schoenberg relishes the opportunity to connect researchers and their teams to rural community sites and support their development of innovative scholarly products, grant applications, and research protocols to transform human health and achieve health equity.
