William W. Stoops, PhD, leads the CCTS Regulatory Knowledge and Support Core and collaborates as Associate Director of the CCTS Substance Use Disorder Module.He is an experimental psychologist with expertise in human laboratory studies and clinical trials for substance use disorders and has substantial experience managing the regulatory requirements of clinical research.
Dr. Stoops is also the Acting Assistant Dean for Clinical Research Infrastructure in the College of Medicine, the Associate Director for Clinical Research in the Substance Use Priority Research Area, and the Director of the Clinical Research Support Office under the Office of the Vice President for Research.
He is dedicated to working with principal investigators and study teams to streamline clinical research from startup to closure, while also ensuring adherence to the highest regulatory and ethical standards. This is achieved through his expertise developed over years of conducting clinical research, including industry- and NIH-sponsored projects, his numerous campus leadership roles and connections, as well as assistance from the support teams he manages, all of which facilitate navigating the clinical research process at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Stoops is the ideal person to contact regarding the clinical research lifecycle, including training, process improvement, addressing roadblocks or networking with potential collaborators.
