The UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is now accepting applications for Pilot Projects in two categories. The purpose of these funding mechanisms is to provide an opportunity and resources to support innovative, collaborative research relevant to the health challenges, and disparities faced by the nation and the citizens of Kentucky. 


Health Equity/Health Disparity Pilot Projects
The UK CCTS will fund one 12-month award for up to $25,000 in total direct costs. This award will support meritorious translational science projects that focus on reducing health inequities. Applications which seek to improve health outcomes among populations who have systematically experienced discrimination and greater social obstacles to health based (e.g. race/ethnicity, sex or gender identity, mental health, disability, etc.) are strongly encouraged. The research should increase the understanding and/or address the dynamics contributing to health inequities, such as social determinants, behavioral change, lifestyle factors, environmental, economic, cultural and family influences. All applications must propose a study which will subsequently lead to translating an effective intervention to advance health equity.  


Community Engagement Pilot Projects
Pilot funding of up to $25,000 in total direct cost will be made available to support one meritorious project conducted in partnership with organization(s) that serve rural Kentucky communities. The focus of the study should address a health issue of concern to the community or communities. Award duration is 12 months.  A letter of support from the director or lead of the community organization(s) indicating agreement to collaborate is required.  Proposals must have (1) a community engagement component as part of the research plan; (2) a plan for sharing research findings with members of the community or communities involved; and (3) a plan describing how the pilot data will support an application for additional future funding. Pilot studies that use the services of the CCTS Rural Research Hubs will be given priority.
