Application Open for TL1 Training Program in Clinical and Translational Science for Predoctoral Students
Lexington, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2023) – The University of Kentucky TL1 Training Program in Clinical and Translational Science provides exceptional predoctoral trainees with skills required for a career in health-related, multidisciplinary clinical and translational research.
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science is now accepting TL1 applications from predoctoral students in any UK college. Six positions will be available. Please note that individuals on temporary or student visas are unfortunately not eligible for this program due to NIH funding eligibility regulations.
Applications are due Monday, April 3, 2023 by 8 a.m.
The TL1 program provides trainees with:
- A solid foundation in core research competencies.
- Discipline-specific training based on coursework.
- Research training at the cutting edge of the specific science.
Trainees also receive salary support at NIH NRSA levels ($27,144 FY 2023), in-state tuition and up to $1,300 for travel expenses to attend one meeting per year of appointment. Initial appointments will be for one year. Progress in the program is reviewed annually, and contingent upon satisfactory progress in the program and adequate program funding, you may be supported for two years.
Students in the TL1 program will be expected to participate in bi-monthly Center for Clinical & Translational Science (CCTS) Seminars, present at the Spring CCTS Conference, attend a Responsible Conduct of Clinical Research Course and/or attend the Clinical and Research Ethics lecture series, and satisfy all NRSA requirements. Students not enrolled in the CCTS MS, CCTS PhD or, equal alternative program, such as the PharmD/PhD or Biostatistics/Epidemiology PhD, will be required to complete either the Graduate Certificate in CTS or other CTS course work including CPH 632 Fundamentals of Clinical Research, a grant writing course, a CTS Research Ethics Course and a Biostats course (3 credit hours minimum).
