CCTS Announces Keynote Speakers, Agenda for 2024 Spring Conference
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 7, 2024) – The UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) will host its 19th Annual Spring Conference on Tuesday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Central Bank Center.
The annual conference is a keystone of the CCTS’ efforts to train and mentor the upcoming translational science workforce, champion team science, and engage with community. Each year, hundreds of researchers, clinicians, research staff, students, and community members convene to share findings and foster collaborations.
Attendance is free but registration is required by March 31.
This year’s conference focuses on “Dissemination and Implementation across the Translational Spectrum.” The event will feature:
- two keynote speakers (details below),
- 10 breakout sessions,
- 46 podium presentations,
- 320 poster presentations (including 18 from students of Frederick Douglass High School), and
- the annual Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship 60-Second Poster Pitch Competition.
Geoffrey Curran, PhD, director of the Center for Implementation Research and Endowed Chair in Pharmacy Practice Innovation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, will deliver a morning keynote address titled “Implementation Science Explained: What it Is and What it Does.” A medical sociologist, he brings expertise on the diffusion of innovation in a variety of health care settings (e.g., pharmacy, specialty care, primary care, and community). For more than 20 years he has been continually funded by the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and other funders to develop and test a range of implementation strategies designed to support the uptake and sustainment of evidence-based practices. He has also written widely on research design and methodology in implementation science.
Ellen J. Hahn, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor emeritus in the UK College of Nursing and former professor in the UK College of Public Health, will deliver an afternoon keynote address titled “Innovation Uptake in the Heart of Tobacco Country: Implementation Science at a Glance.” Hahn served as director of the BREATHE program, including the Tobacco Policy Division, the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy (KCSP), and the Radon Policy Division. She also served as director of UK-CARES (Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences) and director for the Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Core of the NIOSH-funded Central Appalachian Regional Education and Research Center.
