LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 8, 2023) — One University of Kentucky researcher has helped solve a 60-year-old mystery about one of the body’s most vital organs: The heart.

Her research will examine the relationship between environmental exposures, sleep quality, and pediatric obesity in Appalachia.

Dr. Philip Kern received the UK College of Medicine’s highest honor in medical education, the William R. Willard Dean’s Recognition Award.

Eight awardees will receive rigorous training integrated with their ongoing professional or graduate research programs.
